THE ROSE BALLÂ –Â Est. 1971
A Vibrant History
Decades of Giving.
A Lasting Legacy.Â
The Rose Ball is Greenville’s longest-running charitable event, featuring more than 4,000 roses and raising more than $4.9 million to benefit the physical, emotional, educational and cultural needs of our community. Held biennially, the Rose Ball has a reputation of being one of the most beautiful and elegant affairs in the Southeast.
In 1971, the Charity Ball Board of Greenville was organized to sponsor a ball for a charitable community benefit. The Rose Ball was the first ball held in Greenville that would solicit public support to benefit charities in the community. The first Rose Ball was held on September 24, 1971 at the Poinsett Club, and proceeds from the event benefitted the newly constructed St. Francis Hospital.
Beginning in 1975, the Charity Ball Board decided that proceeds from the Ball should be distributed throughout the community with the St. Francis Health System receiving half of the proceeds.
Over the past fifty-three years, the Rose Ball has raised nearly $5 million to benefit the physical, emotional, educational, and cultural needs of our community.
The twenty-eighth Rose Ball will be held Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Poinsett Club.

Celebrating Tradition.
Cultivating Generosity.
Held at the historic Poinsett Club, The Rose Ball is known for its breathtaking floral installations, black-tie glamour, and its unwavering commitment to the Greenville community. Over the decades, thousands of roses have adorned ballrooms—and millions of dollars have been raised to support vital nonprofit organizations across the Upstate.
Founded by a group of visionary civic leaders and volunteers, The Rose Ball was created with a simple mission: to give back to the community through an event that also celebrates its beauty and culture. Today, that spirit of giving continues. Each Ball benefits a diverse group of local charities, from health care and education to the arts and human services.
The event is completely volunteer-led and powered by the passion, creativity, and dedication of hundreds of individuals who lend their time and talents to bring the Ball to life. Thanks to their efforts—and the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and attendees—The Rose Ball has become more than a fundraiser. It is a legacy of compassion, a celebration of community, and a night where giving truly takes center stage.
As we look to the future, we remain rooted in the values that shaped us: elegance, generosity, and a heartfelt commitment to making Greenville a better place for all.
Mission & Impact
Philanthropy in Full Bloom
At its heart, The Rose Ball is about more than a glamorous evening—it’s about making a lasting difference. Since its founding, our mission has been clear:
To raise funds for Greenville-area nonprofit organizations and to inspire a spirit of giving through community celebration.
Held every two years, The Rose Ball serves as one of the Upstate’s most impactful charitable fundraisers. Proceeds from each event are distributed to a wide range of deserving local organizations—supporting critical causes such as: education and youth development, health and wellness initiatives, the arts and cultural enrichment, human services and community outreach.
Over the decades, The Rose Ball has awarded millions of dollars in grants, directly benefiting dozens of nonprofits and touching countless lives across the region. Each beneficiary is carefully selected through a rigorous application process to ensure funds go where they are most needed—and where they can do the greatest good.
We believe generosity is beautiful. And through the power of collective giving, The Rose Ball continues to help Greenville grow stronger, kinder, and more connected.
